Cavity-There are hundreds of types of bacteria that live in your oral cavity. Some of these types help protect the teeth and gums while others are harmful. If the bad bacteria continuous to thrive and multiply, they can cause troubles in your mouth. They work by converting the sugar content in the food you eat into acids. These acids will cling into your tooth and will destroy the outer covering known as the enamel. When the enamel is spoiled, the tooth will break down resulting in dental caries, decay, or cavities

Infection - If left unaddressed, dental caries can lead to infection and even tooth loss most especially if you don’t observe proper dental hygiene. Thousands, if not millions, of bacteria can enter the hollowed and decayed area of the tooth and travel down to its roots. When this happens, your tooth and gums will get infected, resulting in swelling, sensitivity, and severe throbbing pain.

Periodontal diseases and gingivitis- A simple tooth infection can result in gum inflammation known as gingivitis and in further infection in the periodontal ligament, gums, and alveolar bone called periodontal disease

Underlying health problem- The mouth mirrors what is happening inside your body. There is a proven connection between oral health and general health. According to the Academy of General Dentistry, more than 90 percent of all systemic diseases display oral manifestations.
